According to witnesses, the UBA Bank’s fence collapsed on the construction workers who were preparing the site for foundation work to begin.

In Abuja, Nigeria, a fence belonging to UBA Bank collapsed on construction workers, causing fatal injuries to two of them. The incident took place in the Wuse Zone 2 area of the Federal Capital Territory, where workers were excavating the site for foundation work to commence.

According to eyewitnesses, the workers had failed to erect an embankment wall between the collapsed fence and the construction site, leading to the fence falling on the workers. The Head of Operations of the FCT Federal Fire Service, Engineer Amiola Adebayo, confirmed the incident, stating that six construction workers were trapped under the fallen fence. Of the six, four were rescued alive, but two had been fatally injured.

In response to a distress call around noon, the Federal Fire Service quickly mobilized their men to the site. The victims were all taken to the Asokoro General Hospital for medical attention. Engineer Amiola Adebayo explained that the building was under construction, and the adjacent fence to the main building under construction collapsed on the workers.

He further stated that the incident could have been avoided if the workers had erected an embankment or retaining wall while excavating the site for the building’s foundation. Unfortunately, the lack of such a wall caused the adjacent fence to fall on the workers. This incident highlights the importance of following proper safety protocols during construction projects to prevent accidents and injuries
