The FCT Police Command has announced that they will conduct a thorough investigation into the death of Erasmus Emhenya, who passed away on April 6, 2023, while in police custody, due to their commitment to ensuring justice and upholding the rule of law.

The late Erasmus was being detained as a primary suspect in a murder case that the Command was investigating.

In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, on Wednesday, they assured the public that they would leave no stone unturned in their efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death.

The Command’s preliminary investigation has revealed that the police did not torture the suspect to death. The Ag. Commissioner of Police for the FCT Police Command, DCP Ahmed Musa, has ordered a discreet investigation into the immediate and remote cause of the suspect’s death while in police custody.

Additionally, an autopsy to determine the remote cause of the suspect’s death has commenced, and the Command is awaiting the Medical Examiner’s report as part of the ongoing investigation.

The FCT Police Command has urged the public to remain calm, assuring them of their unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and respecting the fundamental rights of all FCT residents.
