Mustapha Umar, 33, and Abubakar Fannami, 30, both from Damaturu, are alleged fraudsters who have been detained in Yobe.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Yobe Command detained them.

In an interview on Monday, ASC Bala Garba, the Command’s public relations officer, revealed this.

According to Garba, on April 13 at around 1300 hours, Hassan Bulama, the owner of a washing business, reported to the command that two young people had broken into his business and taken two sets of clothes.

Garba reported that the thieves made off with their handbag, which included nine fake $100 bills, 14 SIM cards, 10 ATM cards, and a diary with the names and contact information for roughly 500 people.

He claimed that on April 15, the two suspects were located and detained in Damaturu, while one of their conspirators fled.

According to early investigations, Garba said, both suspects were Maiduguri locals who slept at the Hayas Motel in Damaturu.

He claimed that the two admitted to creating fake currency for more than four years.

They freely admitted that they had been profiting greatly from their victims.

He said, “They usually con their victims by using the names of spirits (aljannu).”

After the inquiry was over, he stated that the suspects would be turned over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
