Okoli Ahize, a final-year student at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, is said to have been murdered by a lynch mob after being accused of stealing.

According to reports, the deceased was a Part 5 student in the Department of Civil Engineering.

The incident was confirmed in a statement that Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, the institution’s public relations officer, sent to The Punch on Tuesday.

He mentioned how the administration of the university had denounced the action and formed a panel to look into it.

The event that resulted in the death of a Part 5 student at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, has been strongly denounced by the institution’s leadership.

According to preliminary findings of the investigation, the student was killed by a mob after being accused of stealing a phone.

Olarewaju said, “The Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Bamire, has set up a committee to uncover the circumstances that led to this occurrence. He was saddened by this unpleasant development, which he characterized as terrible.

The President of the Students’ Union, Olayiwola Festus, confirmed the occurrence as well and called for justice.
