The Federal Executive Council meeting this week is being presided over by Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

This is happening while President Muhammadu Buhari is abroad on an eight-day state visit to Madinah, Saudi Arabia, which started on Tuesday and will include an Umrah (Lesser Hajj) observance.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, are in attendance at the meeting on Wednesday, which got underway at 10:00 am.

Ministers, Ministers of State, and a few presidential advisers are also present.

Before the meeting, Council members observed a moment of silence in memory of Bola Ajibola, a former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation who passed away at the age of 89.

Ajibola also served as the Nigerian Bar Association’s president from 1984 to 1985, as well as the country’s high commissioner to the UK and as a judge on the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
