A day-old baby girl has been left abandoned in Lagos, which will seem like a really heartbreaking event.

In the Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State, the infant was left by the side of the road next to a church.

PUNCH  According to Metro, a resident who has not yet been named overheard the infant girl crying helplessly by the road around 6.30 am, after she had been left by the roadside. The resident was en route to a nearby store.

Moving closer to the sobbing infant, the resident saw that she was dressed in long-sleeved baby clothes, a cap, and a flannel blanket.

When the infant was discovered, the resident was shocked and called out to alert nearby neighbors to the situation. However, when no one came forward to claim the child, the resident, who suspected that the mother had abandoned the child at the location at midnight, reported the incident to the Ikorodu Police Division.

When reached, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police public relations officer, confirmed the event to our correspondent and stated that the infant was being treated at the Ikorodu General Hospital.

A resident went to the station around 7 a.m. on Monday and reported hearing a baby cry as she was heading to a nearby supermarket to purchase bread at around 6.30 a.m.

She looked and discovered a baby girl who was wrapped and kept next to the road, not far from a church. She notified the neighbors, but no one came forward to claim the child, so she went to the police station.

The infant, who is thought to be one day old, was removed from the scene and transported to the Ikorodu General Hospital for medical attention. The Ikorodu Division’s Family Support Unit is looking into the case as a preliminary inquiry.
