On Thursday, Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, revealed that troops discovered ammunition hidden in various areas of a black Toyota Corolla car.

On Thursday, it was reported that troops of Operation Forest Sanity intercepted more than 2,000 rounds of ammunition that were being conveyed to bandits by a courier around Polewire in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The ammunition, which included different grades of rounds, were concealed in various parts of a black Toyota Corolla car.

According to Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna, the driver of the vehicle was transporting the ammunition meant for terrorists across the Birnin-Gwari general area. Aruwan further disclosed that the troops arrested the driver and recovered the ammunition.

The ammunition recovered by the troops included 1,079 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 886 rounds of 7.62mm belted ammunition, 139 rounds of 7.62mm tracer ammunition, and five empty AK-47 magazines. The discovery of such a large quantity of ammunition meant for bandits has been seen as a major breakthrough in the fight against insecurity in the state.

The troops acted on credible intelligence and followed up on gunrunning activities to intercept the ammunition. The arrest of the courier and recovery of the ammunition will deny bandits a major supply of ammunition meant to cause destruction and suffering.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai expressed satisfaction with the report and thanked the troops for their proactive efforts in intercepting the ammunition. The governor noted that such efforts by the troops would go a long way in ensuring that bandits are denied access to ammunition and other supplies needed to carry out their nefarious activities.

The situation in Kaduna has been a cause for concern for many Nigerians. The state has been plagued by insecurity, with bandits and other criminal elements wreaking havoc on the people. However, the efforts of the troops in intercepting ammunition and arresting couriers show that the government is committed to fighting insecurity and restoring peace to the state.

Aminu Abdullahi, the driver of the vehicle, is currently in custody for further investigation.
