At least seven people lost their lives while 18 others sustained injuries in a road crash on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The incident happened on the Sapaade bridge along the highway at around 9:21am on Thursday.

A Toyota Sienna with license plate number BWR762PV collided with a Mazda bus with registration number BDN18 LG, causing a fire that resulted in the death of the victims.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta on the same day. According to her, a total of 27 persons were involved in the crash, including 25 male adults, two female adults, and one female child.

Okpe attributed the cause of the accident to the driver of the Sienna bus, who was driving against traffic, and in the process collided with the Mazda bus, resulting in the fire outbreak. She further stated that excessive speed and route violation on the part of the Sienna bus driver were the primary reasons for the accident.

The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, and Idera Hospital, Sagamu, for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased were deposited at the FOS Morgue at Ipara.

The Sector Commander, Ahmed Umar, reportedly cautioned motorists on the dangers of route violation and excessive speed. He advised them to drive cautiously and consider other road users. Umar also commiserated with the families of the victims and advised them to contact FRSC Ogere for more information about the crash.
