A young Nigerian boy, Mashood AbdulRaheem, who was about 12 years old, has died during a swimming expedition in Kwara State. Mashood was a resident of Babadudu compound, Ita Merin, Ilorin West LGA of the state. He left the house with two of his friends early on Sunday morning to fish at a stream in Oloje.

According to City & Crime, Mashood slipped into the river and drowned during the fishing exercise. His colleagues shouted for help, which alerted residents to the situation. They rushed to rescue him, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital where he was taken.

Another source revealed that Mashood was the only child of his mother, while his father had children from his second wife. Mashood’s father, Alhaji Abdulraheem, who confirmed the incident, said he had accepted his fate, though it was painful.

According to the victim’s father, “they brought his corpse to me when I returned home after taking him to the hospital because I was not around when it happened. But I have accepted it as an act of God, and he has since been buried.
