Boat mishap

On Thursday, a boat mishap on the Okoroma river resulted in considerable commotion.

Currently, two bodies have been found at the scene of the boat accident that occurred on Thursday along the Okoroma River in the Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

According to Daily Trust, the “MV Tari” cargo boat capsized in the middle of the Okoroma River while transporting people and commodities from Yenagoa to Brass LGA.

While some of the passengers drowned in the river, others were saved by local divers and the Maritime Union Workers rescue squad.

Millions of naira’s worth of goods are said to have been lost in the boat catastrophe.

The rescue crew had so far found two bodies, according to Mr. Ipigansi Ogoniba, the Chairman of Maritime Union Workers in Bayelsa State, who also said that the casualty numbers will be known by Saturday.

There are casualties, but we won’t know the entire details until tomorrow, he said. (Saturday). We don’t know how many individuals are still submerged, but thus yet, only two dead have been found.

We will continue to search there tomorrow. The final number of fatalities won’t be known to us until tomorrow evening, he said.

SP Asinim Butswat, a police spokesperson in Bayelsa State, verified.

We have the report regarding the boat disaster, but we don’t yet have the death toll, he said. The divers continue their hunt. I’ll get in touch with the Nembe DPO to get further details.
