The culprit reportedly received a cutlass beating before being set ablaze, according to reports.

A 22-year-old man named Eyo was set on fire by an enraged crowd on Sunday for allegedly stealing an Android phone.

In Cross River State’s Calabar Municipality Local Government Area’s Atimbo neighborhood, the incident took place.

The deceased was known for petty theft and had received numerous warnings, an eyewitness told NAN.

According to the informant, the youngster allegedly stole a phone on Saturday, fled the neighborhood, and then showed up again on Sunday.

“I have known Eyo since we were in secondary school, and he has always stolen. He once stole the other half of the class’s tuition.

He only met his end today, but this was not the first time a mob action had been carried out against him, the man claimed.

The witness remembered seeing the enraged mob thrash the supposed robber with a cutlass before setting him ablaze.
