Dino Melaye, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, has made revelations about how Nyesom Wike became Governor of Rivers State. In an interview on Arise TV, Melaye claimed that Patience Jonathan, the former first lady, helped Wike ascend to the governorship position.

He also alleged that former Governors of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi and Peter Odili, contributed to Wike’s political ascent.

Melaye accused Wike of being ungrateful to those who helped him in his political career and boasted about the people he has assisted.

According to Melaye, Odili helped Wike become the chairman of his local government, and Amaechi later made him his chief of staff and nominated him to be a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Mrs Goodluck Jonathan also spent her money and connection to make Wike the Governor of Rivers State.

Melaye’s remarks highlight the role of influential figures in Nigerian politics and the dynamics of power and patronage. While he acknowledges that everyone gets helped by someone in their political careers, Melaye asserts that assistance should not be used as a means of control and domination
