The assault happened just 48 hours after suspected herdsmen slaughtered no less than 46 people in an attack on Umogidi Entekpa in the Adoka region of the Otukpo Local Government Area.
The PUNCH reports that Governor of Benue State Samuel Ortom has written to President Muhammadu Buhari.
He urged the President to order security services to find the culprits responsible for the deaths in the state rather than just expressing his sorrow.
This comes after 87 people in the state were slain in several incidents over the course of 48 hours.
Ortom asserted that the attackers were known and needed to be apprehended.
In response to the murder of 36 internally displaced people who were seeking refuge at LGEA Primary School, Mgban, in Nyiev council ward, in the state’s Guma Local Government Area, the governor delivered this statement.

Three persons were slain in an attack on the Igbobi hamlet in Apa last Monday by some suspected herders. The next day, three individuals were slain in an attack in the hamlet of Umogidi.
According to reports, suspected herders broke into LGEA Primary School in Mgban at around 9 p.m. on Friday and terrorized the locals, including pregnant ladies who had been uprooted from their homes in their respective towns earlier that day.
Speaking through the council’s security officer, Christopher Waku, the local government chairman, Mike Aba, said, “There is a primary school at Mgban village where some people who always abandoned their homes due to herdsmen attacks dwell, and the herdsmen came and attacked them last night. (Friday).
The deceased were 34 and the injured were 40, but I just got a phone saying that two of the injured had passed away. Ten bodies were found on the highway, while 24 bodies were found in the classrooms.
While confirming the attack, Catherine Anene, the police public relations officer, also stated that 28 corpses had been found.
28 bodies have been found and are being stored in the hospital mortuary, and the Mgbam attack has been confirmed, she said.

President Buhari calls for a stop to the horrific violence in Benue, according to a statement he issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu. “The entire nation stands united in the fight against the forces of terror and evil,” the statement read.
Shehu claims that the President criticized the use of terrorism as a weapon in intercommunal disputes and urged that the assailants be immediately identified and brought to justice.
Additionally, he expressed his sorrow and compassion to the families of those who perished in the incident. He also gave the secret services, police, and military commanders the order to intensify surveillance on all fronts and to evaluate the security management in the affected areas right away.
“The families of those who were killed are in our thoughts and prayers. The President said, “The entire nation stands together in the struggle against the forces of terror and evil.
However, Ortom stressed his administration would not be prompted to enact laws on its own and called the attack “unfortunate.”
“We won’t be provoked to take up arms against anyone,” the governor declared. We will let the legal system work its course.
I read the President’s condolence message, but I think he need to go farther and give orders to smoke out these terrorists and herders. The suffering of these people is understandable.
“People doing this are known, and they need to be rescued. Wait till after I leave office before inviting these Fulani to commit acts of terror. Then you can abolish the statute.
“We desire peace. I won’t be aroused. How can this kind of slaughter help us advance? Accusing and criticizing me is not right.”
