Following the results of the 2023 general elections, the former CBN governor, Muhammadu Lamido Sanusi, revealed that the nation had now become split.

Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the governor of Lagos State, and other dignitaries were present when Sanusi spoke at the occasion.
The speakers emphasized the significance of strengthening Nigeria’s structures to ensure that democracy and the country’s economy are protected.
Sanusi emphasized that any candidate for office must be forced to speak with the public and address problems.
The nation is currently “dangerously divided along ethnic and religious lines,” according to Sanusi, who also said that the integrity of state institutions has been called into question as a result of the elections.
“The public now has doubts about policies, policing, the courts, and the election umpire,” he claimed.
Sanusi, who delivered his speech via Zoom, said: “In October 2022, speaking at the Kaduna Investment Forum, I advised Nigerians that they should not vote for anyone who assured them that working with Nigeria after 2023 would be simple.” I did intend it. Since the civil conflict, I don’t believe Nigeria has experienced anything as challenging as this. Building a country is one of our challenges.
“Our nation has been perilously split along racial and religious lines.
“Unfortunately, we seem to be lacking in leadership, and we have a sluggish economy.”
He continued by saying that Nigeria must closely examine the method by which the leaders are chosen.
“No procedure is flawless,” he declared. Both the United States and the United Kingdom have demonstrated this. The populace should, at the very least, be aware of their political options. I believe that the Electoral Act of 2022 needs to be examined much sooner than elections. We need a structure that prevents people from simply showing up at party primaries and voting without being held accountable to the public. Everywhere, this is what takes place. People must be aware of their political choices. They are required by legislation to take part in public discussions of policy issues in other regions.
“This is the only country I am aware of where we elect a president before determining whether or not he is capable of carrying out his duties.”
Additionally, he emphasized the need for greater transparency in the election process for officials in Nigeria.
