CNF urged on the President to make peace and national cohesion his top priorities.
A faction from the north has sworn to back Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and uphold his election as president.
According to the Concerned Northern Forum (CNF), Tinubu needs a peaceful Nigeria to function since no one or group of individuals possesses a monopoly on violence.
After eight years of each region holding the position of Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF), CNF pleaded with the President to elect to work on national unity and peaceful coexistence, saying he should support the North in producing the Governor of the Central Bank (CBN).
“The Concerned Northern Forum congratulate the President-Elect, Alh Bola Ahmed Asiwaju Tinubu on his well-deserved victory and simultaneously will use the same opportunity to warn those fanning the embers of hate to desist from any such act that will cause disunity in the country as Nigeria is not a Banana Republic,” said Aliyu Muhammadu Sanni, Chairman of the Concerned Northern Forum.
All those who are dissatisfied with the decision should seek justice in court or adopt a spirit of sportsmanship and congratulate the president-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria now that the election has been held and the winner announced.
“We, of the Concerned Northern Forum, will defend your mandate with all available means because it not only reflects popular desire but is also lawful and constitutional. We are warning anyone who believes they can incite violence and wreak havoc across the nation to think again because they will have to deal with us since no one group monopolizes violence and foolishness.
We would also like to use this occasion to strongly denounce the effort by a small group of troublemakers to establish an interim government. We applaud the DSS for spotting this vile scheme and urge them to keep looking for and prosecuting those responsible for it. See, a new government needs to be sworn in by May 2023.
We are likewise urging the President-elect to be kind and work to make the nation into one big family. He should make sure that well-qualified people from all parts of the nation are fairly represented in political positions.
“For unity and peace to continue to rule, positions that have been held by one region should be taken to the sister region.”
“In essence, positions like the SGF held by a Northerner for eight years should be given to a Southerner; the position of CBN Governor, which has been in the South, should go to the North; the GCEO of the NNPC LTD, which has been in the North; service chiefs; same in MDAs and other government agencies; all juicy and key positions should be swapped to maintain balance and stability in the country.”
“Mr. President, we elected you because of your track record of uniting the brightest minds; you are a detribalized Nigerian, a go-getter, and a pacesetter. We implore you to kindly use these qualities to reunite Nigeria and restore its ability to function.
You should prioritize the economy and pay special attention to developing our economy into a modern, international one that can compete with the economies of superpower nations because we have the potential and resources to do so.
The introduction of deliberate, effective economic policies and interventions in all areas of the economy with the goal of lifting the masses out of the extreme poverty they were experiencing and alleviating their suffering in order to make way for peace, progress, and development is necessary to strengthen the naira.
This will eventually result in a decline in crime rates in the nation, establish a favorable business environment, and increase employment prospects for our teeming youth.
“SGF, GCEO of NNPC Ltd., and most importantly CBN appointments should not be based on recommendation but rather on merit, experience, knowledge, technical know-how, consistency, and hard work.”
“The CBN Governor must be an astute banker who is still actively involved in the financial sector, not someone who left banking to pursue other personal goals and returned on recommendation after a long absence.”
