The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) welcomed another group of 144 stranded Nigerians on Monday from Niamey in the Niger Republic.
This information was provided by Dr. Nuradeen Abdullahi, the NEMA Coordinator for the Kano Territorial Office, who was hosting the evacuees at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano State.
According to Abdullahi, who was represented by Mr. Suleiman Sa’ad-Abubakar, Head of Human Resources at NEMA Kano, the returnees landed at the airport around 2:30 p.m.
The returnees were flown into Nigeria by the Ethiopian carrier SKY MALI Airlines’ B737-400, which has the registration number UR-CQX.
He claimed that a volunteer repatriation program was used to transport the returnees back to Niamey under the supervision of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The program was intended for those in need who had left the country in search of better opportunities in different European nations but were unable to pay to return when their travel plans fell through.
According to him, there were 106 adult males, 16 adult females, and 22 minors among the returnees. (10 females and 12 males).
Abdullahi observed that the returning citizens came from various states, including Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Abia, Sokoto, and Edo.
