The late student, who was known by the nickname “Mayor,” was apparently a student in the Department of Public Administration when he was slain on Monday at around 9:00 pm.
The PUNCH reports that a final-year student of University of Benin simply known as Desmond, has been killed.
The student was on Monday shot dead in his room at the Hall 3 Hostel by unknown gunmen in what appeared like a cult-related incident.
The late student popularly known as ‘Mayor’ was said to be in the Department of Public Administration and was shot at about 9 pm on Monday.
The incident caused panic among students. He was also said to be a Kegite chief before he was killed.
A student who pleaded anonymity said the deceased was shot in the face at point-blank range.
According to The PUNCH, a University of Benin senior named Desmond who went by the name Desmond was murdered.
In what seemed to be a cult-related event, the student was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen on Monday in his room at the Hall 3 Hostel.
The late student, who was known by the nickname “Mayor,” was reportedly a student in the Department of Public Administration when he was slain on Monday at around 9 o’clock.
Students were alarmed by the event. He was reportedly a Kegite leader before he was assassinated.
The victim was shot in the face at point-blank range, according to a student who asked to remain anonymous.
“The killing of Desmond led to panic in the school,” the student said. Even staying in the hostels is considered scary by the students. He took a bullet to the forehead and had no chance of escaping the assault.
His remains were said to have been placed in the mortuary at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital as of the time this story was filed.
However, efforts to get a response from the school were unsuccessful because a WhatsApp message sent to the university’s public relations officer, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, did not receive a response.
