Former Anambra State governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju dies away at the age of 78.

The older statesman passed away on Tuesday morning, April 11, at the National Hospital Abuja, according to a statement issued by his first son, Chetachi Mbadinuju.

The Statement Reads;

We announce the demise of our father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and associate, Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, a former governor of the state of Anambra, with broken hearts but the deepest thankfulness to God for a life well lived.

After a brief illness, ODERA, as he was affectionately known, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 11, 2023, at the National Hospital Abuja, age 78, in the company of his family and loved ones.

We ask God’s love and mercy to be extended to him during this terrible time, as well as to those left behind to grieve him. The family will make an announcement about his funeral arrangements when the time comes.

The father passed away at the age of 78, according to lawyer Mr. Chetachi.

Due to what some people referred to as a gang up against him by some political godfathers, Late Mbadinuju lost his bid for reelection in 2003. His tenure had also seen political turmoil, including murders, the destruction of public institutions, and labor unrest, the majority of which were allegedly planned to make him unpopular and prevent him from being reelected.

The former governor, who was born on June 14th, 1945, has a BA in political science and a doctorate in government. One of the top English colleges awarded him a law degree. He was a Times International editor. Prior to entering politics, he taught politics and African studies as an associate professor at the State University of New York. Between 1979 and 1980, the deceased worked as Dr. Jim Chris Nwobodo’s personal assistant while he was governor of the former Enugu State. Between 1980 and 1983, he worked for Shehu Shagari as his personal assistant.

He married Nnebuogo Mbadinuju, with whom he had five children: Ada Mbadinuju (a doctor), Chetachi Mbadinuju (a businessman), Nwachukwu Mbadinuju (an operations manager), Uche Mbadinuju, and Chima Mbadinuju.
