Former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye has been declared as the winner of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primaries in Kogi State. The returning officer announced the results on Sunday, revealing that Melaye scored 313 votes to defeat his closest rival, Idoko Ilonah, who had 124 votes.

Awoniyi Sunday and Musa Wada scored 77 and 56 votes respectively. As the winner of the PDP primaries, Melaye will be representing the party in the upcoming Kogi State governorship election.

In the general election, Melaye will be facing off against Usman Ododo, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The election promises to be a fierce battle as both parties aim to secure the position of governor in the state.

Melaye’s victory in the PDP primaries indicates that he enjoys significant support within the party. However, he will need to campaign vigorously to gain the support of the wider electorate and ultimately win the election.
