Additional information revealed that law enforcement officials, along with some individuals volunteering to assist, are presently pursuing the abductors.
Unknown gunmen have caused panic in Osun State by abducting an official of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Popoola Olasupo, and one other member of the corps. The incident occurred on Sunday around 6.30 am, while Olasupo was on his way to his duty post, in the Eledumare-Fidiwo axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to a source from the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), who wished to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the matter, the gunmen emerged from the bush and opened fire on a commercial bus in which Olasupo was travelling. He was then abducted while the other passengers escaped.
Policemen and volunteers are currently on the trail of the kidnappers, who fled into the forest. The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident and stated that the anti-kidnapping squad was already in pursuit of the perpetrators.
Efforts to get the reaction of the spokesperson for TRACE, Babatunde Akinbiyi, were unsuccessful as he did not answer calls to his mobile and had not responded to a text message sent to him. The incident highlights the need for increased security measures to protect residents and commuters in the region
